I'm posting this review only to inform future travelers about the real experience at this hotel, because I would have loved to know this before booking my stay at Hip Tulum. I stayed in May 2023 to celebrate my birthday, I traveled solo (female). READ the CONS section at the bottom, it's the main point of this review. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel for solo travelers. First, the PROS: The room and aesthetic of the hotel in general is bohemian/ecochic, very "Tulum vibes". It's a beach front property so you literally wake up in front of the beautiful Mexican Caribbean beach. The staff is nice, they try to be welcoming. They offered me a welcome drink (hibiscus lemonade); the restaurant has a goo Continental breakfast with about 4 options that are included in your stay. It's a place intended for relaxation, no party vibes here. Walking distance from coffee shops and restaurants. The staff surprised me with a birthday cake. THE CONS: I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel for solo travelers. It is very quiet, to the point where it feels like you are the only guest in the hotel. They offered me a free daily yoga class when I booked (I booked directly with them, I did not use any booking agency/website). This offer seemed very attractive and it was exaclty what I wanted, to do yoga in Tulum right next to the ocean. But it was to my surprise that they cancelled the class, 2 days out of my 3-day stay with them. The first day, they blamed the weather. The second time, they just cancelled 0 minutes prior to the class time with no valid reason. It seemed like it was not worth it to go ahead with the class if it was only intended for one guest, me. That was very disappointing. There was a huge roach in the room and when I requested assistance from the front desk, they ignored me completely. They do not have reliable communication with guests, everything is handled through a whatsapp chat that sometimes can be unattended with no response for hours. It gets very dark at night and at times, it feels unsafe. Staff assured me that the property is monitored by a security team, but I, not once, saw such security staff monitoring the beach. One night, I woke up to a horrible smell. It seemed like there was a fire somewhere nearby. Not the hotel's fault but worth mentioning. The restaurant waiters are not as attentive to solo guests as they are to couples. Not sure why, but I noticed this happened several times: during breakfast, during lunch time and while eating at the beach. Once you leave the room to do your check out, they send someone from the cleaning staff to verify if you drank or ate from the minibar. They do this at their own discretion, leaving the guest without opportunity to refute anything. I did not touch the minibar and thankfully the report was correct, but I found this procedure a little strange compared to how other hotels handle the minibar checkup. There was an unannounced electricity interruption. By unannounced I mean that the hotel staff knows this will happen, however, they fail to disclose this information to guests in advance. This interruption was an inconvenience, because it affects the water supply, (meaning you cannot shower or use the restroom after going to the beach) and I had plans to go somehwere else right after. A heads up in advance would have been the right thing to do. Last but not least, after the roach incident, the front desk staff gave me an "upgrade", they switched me to a beach front room (I was originally in a beautiful second floor room with a terrace, private). The new room did not have a sofa as the previous one did, and it was more exposed to the beach. The downside was that there were bugs in the bed (on the sheets, many small bug So, in summary: No yoga class guaranteed, even though they sell it that way Waiters are not very attentive Roaches/bugs Unannounced Electricity interruptions. I understand it is a government mandate to preserve the environment, but if the hotel knows about this in advance, a heads up to guests would be the right thing to do. Feels unsafe at night Hope this helps.

WHERE IS THE 0 STAR?? I was showed a receipt when I went to pay and was charged a total different price, and on the receipt they showed me when I asked about the charge, they acted like we didn’t know what we were talking about and made us feel so uncomfortable. We only got a small amount of drinks that were on their happy hour and promotion menu and they were super rude. They demanded a certain amount of cash tip and after we gave them that (because we felt bad and wanted to get out of there) they still charged us $60 more on our card. We tried talking to the manager, nothing happened, and we tried to explain and even calculated the original price infront of them then they showed us a completely different receipt. It really made us feel like a target coming here and was a huge bummer. DO NOT GO HERE. It is really unfortunate how people want to take advantage of others when we just wanted a good time and we were really looking forward to going to a beach club.

Amazing cocktail party at Hip Hotel! We had reserved a private area on the beach for our wedding Welcome Party, and the staff at Hip Hotel Beach Club quickly pivoted to accommodate us inside due to a massive downpour of rain. The food and beach cocktails were delicious and the service was SO friendly! They even brought out a tequila chair and started pouring shots a little later in the evening. It was even better than we anticipated - such a delight!

Was our first time staying at this hotel but definitely won’t be the last. It was quiet, clean, and truly beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and drinks were incredible - 5 star dining service for every meal! The servers at the restaurant were very attentive and polite. I love Tulum and will definitely be staying at Hip Hotel again in the future.

A nice cozy hotel right off the beach that isn't too posh nor crowded. Would have liked to give a 4 or 5 star...service was great with one downside. The romantic dinner we had paid $150 for was not worth the cost. It had briefly started raining when we were seated start and I understand weather happens, but it was handled very poorly like they had never encountered this issue before. We were moved into a normal table inside the restaurant. Nothing special nor romantic about it. Spoke with the manager about it, said it would be taken care of, then our concierge came asking about the same issue, then another employee at night who both also said it would be taken care of, and also the restaurant manager that offered no real solution. It did have easy access to the beach with several rooms that had a nice ocean view.

My boyfriend and I went here for New Years and we LOVED the hotel. We had an ocean view room which had a terrific view of the ocean. Rooms also have big private outdoor areas with chairs and hammocks which was very relaxing. It's a cool vibe, you walk on the sand to get to your room. Definitely a more low key/ low pressure kind of place which I appreciated and it has terrific beach front space for the whole hotel. Would definitely recommend, it's a good value.

TOTAL SCAMMERS!!!!! Beware!!!!!! I was showed a receipt with $3,175 pesos, gave them my card, and was charged $3750 pesos. We were told our total was $3,175 pesos, then we’re charged $3750 pesos. (Thats an extra $40 USD) We tried to talk to them about it and they acted like they didn’t understand us, we tipped him cash so that wasn’t the extra charge. DO NOT GO HERE THEY WILL SCAM YOU AND OVERCHARGE YOU!!!! Not worth it. Food was bad, drinks were mid. Have to call my bank now and they made us so uncomfortable. WORST PLACE IN TULUM, go to ziggys beach club instead.

Sketchy. At first I read all the reviews and thought okay, we will still try it. Pros: good service and amazing shrimp tacos at affordable price for a beach spot. Drinks are over priced and very very weak on alcohol. The cabanas are a very good price to rent and they valet free if you get a cabana. The worst part of this place is when we asked for our check, they told us a price with a sticky note and would not give us an itemized receipt, very very sketchy. We had to call a manager to get it to check out bill. Then they tried to tell us we need to spend more. We had to explain what the host told us the cabana spend was and they can’t change up the piece that it was wrong, they allowed us to pay our bill and gave us our itemized receipt. Not sure we will be back, I feel bad for the hotel guests.
